State budgetary institution of additional education Center for children and youth musical and choreographic art “Edelweiss” of Saint Petersburg (“Edelweiss”) dates back to 1994. The project started at School No. 438 in the village of Lisiy Nos by the initiative of Irina Vladimirovna Polikarpova, who began teaching young residents of the village the art of choreography and began staging amazing concerts with their participation.

Now, more than 5,414 students in 488 creative associations are engaged in Edelweiss Center, 167 employees work, implementing than 88 educational programs in various areas (choreographic, theatrical, vocal, musical, physical culture and sports, applied creativity).

As part of the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin from 29.05.2017 No. 240 “On the announcement of the Decade of Childhood in the Russian Federation”, Edelweiss Center makes a great contribution to the development of youth creativity, promoting the artistic and aesthetic education of children by means of musical choreographic art, helps the practical implementation of the national program for the upbringing of a balanced personality, formation of a healthy lifestyle, familiarizing the youth with the history and traditions of our country.

Students and teachers of Edelweiss Center actively participate in various festivals, competitions at international, all-Russian, regional, city, and district levels.

For 28 years of its work, Edelweiss Center has implemented more than 100 creative projects on stages of Saint Petersburg, Russia and abroad. Audiences in the best concert halls of the country applauded the talent of young artists, their teachers and their artistic director.

Edelweiss became the only children’s creative team in Saint Petersburg that took an active part in the cultural program of the XXII Winter Olympic and XI Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014 (more than 10 solo concerts were given in the Olympic Park).

On May 4, 2012, students and teachers of Edelweiss Center performed for the first time on the stage of the State Kremlin Palace, with the premiere of the children’s musical performance “Angel over Saint Petersburg”.

For the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the creative teams of Edelweiss gave a big solo concert “Victory Spring!” In the State Kremlin Palace.

Within the framework of the Children’s Ambassadors of Peace Tour program, students and teachers of Edelweiss Center have visited more than 20 countries of the world (China, France, Germany, Sweden, Finland, United Arab Emirates, Monaco, Poland, Belgium, Lebanon, Turkey, Austria, Italy and others).

At the invitation of the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation  – Valentina Ivanovna Matvienko – more than 500 students of Edelweiss Center took part in the cultural program of the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum.

At the invitation of the Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation – Elena Grigorievna Drapeko – more than 400 students of Edelweiss took part in the festive concert dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Great October Revolution “Bell of the Revolution” at the Oktyabrsky Big Concert Hall.

With the support of Oleg Anatolyevich Nilov – Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation – more than 600 students of Edelweiss took part in the “Dobrovidenie” Folk Song Festival.

More than 800 students of Edelweiss took part in the celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Siege.

For great successes and achievements in educational and creative activities, students of Edelweiss are regularly awarded trips to the Artek Center in Yalta, Crimea.

In 2019, Edelweiss Center achieved two world records in the Guinness Book of Records: the most massive drum crescendo (Nevsky Prospect, Saint Petersburg, May 2019) and the largest orchestra in the world (Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg, September 2019).

Edelweiss became a prizewinner of the city review-competition of state budgetary educational institutions of additional education for children “Additional education, a space for the successful socialization for children.” This achievement became possible thanks to the teachers of the Edelweiss Center, constantly improving their professional level, participating in competitions of pedagogical skills. Teachers of the Edelweiss Center repeatedly became winners and laureates of regional and city competitions of pedagogical skills in the nomination “I give my heart to children” and “Health teacher”. Teachers received the award of the Government of Saint Petersburg “The best teacher of additional education.”

“All the best for children” – Edelweiss Director (Irina Vladimirovna Polikarpova) Special Program – includes the implementation of the following creative projects aimed at improving the performance of students and the professional skills of teachers and  aims at successful integration of parents into educational and creative processes:

    “Arabesque” – annual ballet competition (held for 13 years, the total audience is more than 15,000 people, the total number of participants is more than 5,000 people);

    “Charlie” – annual children’s theater festival (held for 13 years, the total audience coverage is more than 12,000 people, the total coverage of participants is more than 3,000 people);

    “The White Grand Piano” – annual open festival for young pianists (held for 14 years, the total number of spectators is more than 4000 people, the total number of participants is more than 500 people);

    “Greatest of All” –  competition of amateur performances for young people (held for 5 years, the total coverage of spectators is 8000 people, the total coverage of participants is 3800 people);

    “Golden Microphone” – annual competition for young vocalists (held for 16 years, the total audience coverage is 80,000 people, the total coverage of participants is 1,800 people);

    “Petro-DANCE” – annual international children’s choreographic festival (held for 18 years, the total audience coverage is 150,000 people, the total coverage of participants is 8,000 people);

    “Forward, to the heights of sports!” – sports contest for children and parents (held for 6 years, the total coverage of spectators is 8000 people, the total coverage of participants is 3000 people);

In order to expand the activities and improve the quality of the implementation of leisure programs, Edelweiss Center has established networking agreements with educational institutions and cultural institutions: the Peterhof Museum Reserve, the Russian Museum, the Vaganova Russian Ballet Academy, Saint Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts, Leningrad Regional College of Culture and Arts and the Academy of Talents.

We are 29 years old, this means that we still have everything ahead of us. New learning initiatives and achievements, new wonderful and creative projects!
